101 Female Russian Skydivers Form Largest 'Flower Pattern' [Video]

Jumpers of The Pearls of the Sky team leave a space in their formation in tribute to a colleague killed in another freefall.

A group of 101 female skydivers have set a new Russian record after forming the largest flower pattern during freefall. They leapt from aircraft above the town of Kolomna, about 70 miles from the capital Moscow.

The participants from the Pearls of the Sky team dedicated the jump to ex-captain Irina Sinitsina who died last autumn in a group skydiving stunt in California.

Ms Sinitsina had led the team as they set the previous Russian record of 88 people in a flower pattern in July 2012.

This time, the team left one space open in the centre of the formation to represent their "missing petal".

The team spent two days training and practising the formation in groups of 40 and 60 before successfully completing the jump with 101 women.
