Three Applicants Die in Niger State NIS Recruitment Exercise

At least three applicants were reported to have slumped and died while taking part in the Nigeria Immigration Service recruitment exercise today in Minna, Niger state.


Over 11, 000 candidates were said to have turned up for the exercise that took place at Women Day Secondary School Minna.

Daily Trust gathered that the officers and men of the service had a tough time in controlling the applicants that formed a queue to a streach of two kilometers, thereby overwhelmed the personnel of the service conducting the exercise, leading to a stampede.

Following the stampede The Niger Times also gathered that many of the applicants collapsed and rushed to Minna General Hospital for medical attention.

All effort to speak to the victims failed as members of the public were blocked by the Hospital security from going closer to them.

The Controller of Niger State Command of the service, Ezekiel S. Kaura, confirmed that five candidates collapsed as a result stampeded and rushed to Hospital.

Contacted, the Niger State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Sule confirmed the death of two of the applicants that were rushed to the Hospital said, "one female candidate was dead on arrival while one other male candidate pass on while on admission."
