"I never had any problem with Senator Kuta" - Gov. Babangida Aliyu
Niger State governor, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, has denied any rift with late Sen. Dahiru Awaisu Kuta who died on June 12 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
Aliyu made this known while answering questions from journalists after the valedictory session in honour of Kuta in the Senate chamber on Wednesday in which a motion was passed to name the headquarters of the Hydro-power Producing Areas Development Commission(HYPPADEC) in Minna, the Niger State capital, after the deceased.
The Governor who led a delegation of Niger state government and the late Kuta's family to the Senate chamber said most of the things published in the newspapers had nothing to do with reality.
The governor was being rumoured to eye the Niger East Senatorial seat occupied by Kuta in 2015, but he stated on Wednesday that he had never told anyone he wanted to seek another office.
Aliyu, who spoke to journalists in the National Assembly, said: "I am happy that the Senate recommended that that the HYPERDEC headquarters after him. Our concern most importantly is the family that he left behind. He has been in the elective office from the House of Assembly to the House of Representatives and then to the Senate.
"There was never a running battle with the late Kuta. When I went to the House of Representatives, I didnt seek it. When I also contested the governorship election, I did not also contend for it.
"People want to play politics with everything. I had never declared to anybody that I want to run for any office yet. Whatever you might have read in the papers is an attempt by some people to play politics, but I had never had any problem with the late senator."
