Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Europe's Best Player Award
Cristiano Ronaldo won the award for Europe's Best Player at the gala celebrated in the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
The Real Madrid forward, who beat off Neuer and Robben, received the most votes from the 54 journalists representing each of the UEFA countries who gave their verdict based on sporting performances from the 2013-14 season.
The Portugal international was garlanded after an exceptional season, in which he won the European Cup and Copa del Rey with his side. On an individual note he was the top scorer in the Champions League with 17 goals (a new record in the competition), top goalscorer in the Spanish league with 31, and European Golden Boot (alongside Luis Suárez).
Thankful to his teammates "It was a fantastic year on a collective level. I play for the best team in the world and it's possible to retain the title. I'm very happy. I dedicate it to all my teammates, who made it possible, and to everyone who believed in me", revealed the emotional Madrid forward.
The attacker received the prestigious trophy, which was created by UEFA president Michel Platini, in collaboration with European Sports Media (ESM).
