Gov. Babangida Aliyu Picks Form to Contest Niger East Senatorial Seat in 2015

Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has confirmed his interest in vying for the senatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party by picking the form to contest the Niger East senatorial seat in 2015.

The form was bought on behalf of the governor by the chairman of Talba Success Movement, Hamisu Jankaro, at the state secretariat of the PDP in Minna on Wednesday, the 15th of October.

Stakeholders in the Niger East senatorial district had shortly before the purchase of the form announced that due to the zoning of the governorship position to Zone C in the state, three other positions that include the position of senator, minister and speaker of the state Assembly have been zoned to Niger East senatorial known as Zone B.

It was also adopted during the meeting that the three positions be zoned to the three emirates that make up the zone.

Minna emirate which has five local governments got the senatorial slot while Suleja emirate with three LGCs got the slot of the minister while Kagara which has only a LGC was given the slot of the speaker of the state Assembly.

By that design, incumbent Senator Nuhu Zagbayi has been schemed out of contest as his position has been zoned to Minna emirate where Governor Aliyu hails from.

It was speculated that Zagbayi who won the August 30 by-election to go to the Senate was being used as a stop gap measure  for Governor Aliyu though he has denied the allegation.
