Niger State Government Offers Automatic Employment to Its National Sports Festival Medalists
Niger State Government has announced automatic employment to all medalists at the 18th National Sports Festival, tagged Eko 2012, held in Lagos.
The State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, represented by the Commissioner of Sports Development, Mr. Daniel Clifford Shashere announced this at a reception for the state athletes held at the Minna Sports Club.
He said the occasion was organized to reward the athletes’ contributions and urged them to make judicious use of what was given to them for the benefit of their families.
Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu announced a cash reward of N350, 000 for Gold medalist, N250, 000 for Silver and N150, 000 for Bronze medalists.
The Governor explained that the reward would go a long way in encouraging them adding that sports had gone beyond mere play and exercise but was a means of economic emancipation.
He, therefore, urged the athletes to put more effort to ensure they win more laurels for the state at the Calabar National Open Festival next year.
Speaking on behalf of the medalists, Malam Lawal Hassan expressed delight with the reward and assured that they would perform better in Calabar, Cross River State.
In his vote of thanks, the Director of Sports in the State Ministry of Sports Development, Alhaji Baba Sheshi Katcha pledged the ministry’s unflinching support to government’s laudable programmes.
At the occasion, winning coaches, Hockey winning coach and those who participated and could not win any medal were also rewarded.
