Speaking when he received the new Commandant of Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army, Minna, Governor Aliyu noted that the public service and the military now produce very young, highly educated, professional, skilled and knowledgeable manpower who retire at their prime age and left doing nothing.

Governor Aliyu stated that the nation was being denied the services of these knowledgeable young professionals because of those outdated public service rules which he said needs to be reviewed for the overall progress of the country.

He suggested that the retirement period of the military as well as the civil servant should be reviewed from 65 to 70 years for age and 35 to 40 years for duration of service.

The Governor enjoined the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) to make itself more relevant to the government and people of Niger State and to also invite government officials whenever it was organizing seminars and workshops at the command.

Governor Aliyu expressed gratitude and happiness with the cordial civil/military relationship in the state noting that the synergy between the military and the civilian population was vital to the sustenance of peace in the state.

He directed the Commissioners of Environment, Planning and Works to liaise with the command and see find out possible intervention areas where the state government could assist the Army especially in the renovation of the Barracks and provision of infrastructure.

Earlier, the new TRADOC Commander, Major General Shehu Abdulkadir said he regarded his new posting as a challenge to contribute his quota to the development of the state and solicited for maximum support and cooperation from the state government.

He appreciated the cordial relationship civil/military relationship existing in the state as well as the effort made by the state government towards the provision of electricity, water and renovation of some houses for soldiers and hoped it would not relent.
