World's Oldest Man Dies at 112

The world’s oldest man has died at the age of 112 after holding the title for just three months.

New Yorker Salustiano Sanchez inherited the crown in June after Japan’s Jiroemon Kimura, died aged 116 in western Japan.

Mr Sanchez, known as Shorty to his friends, passed away on Friday at a nursing home in Grand Island. He put his longevity down to eating a banana a day.

Mr Sanchez had two children, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

When he was given the title in a statement to the Guinness World Records after he was appointed world’s oldest man, he said he did not feel accomplished just because he was older than most.

The oldest authenticated person in the world, Jeanne Louise Calment of France, died at age 122.
