Daily Trust Sued N200million By Gov. Aliyu's Media Aide For Defamation

Danladi Ndayebo, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu has sued publishers of Daily Trust newspapers and its Reporter, Mr. Andrew Agbese for defamation.

Ndayebo Claims the publishers wrongfully linked him as the source of a report published in the October 29, 2013 edition of Daily Trust newspaper which claimed that Governor Aliyu, has pulled out of embattled new PDP.

According to Leadership the governor's media aide wants an order from the court compelling the Abuja based newspaper to publish a retraction of the allegation, and tender a public apology to him in the newspaper with equal prominence as the offending publication.

Leadership also reports that in the suit filed by his counsel, Mr. Solomon Menegbe, Ndayebo also wants the court to order the defendants to pay him the sum of two hundred million naira (N200,000,000.00) for damages, and the lower patronage his official duties had suffered , in view of the suspicion created by the fabricated allegation against him.

In the said report authored by the first defendant, Andrew Agbese alleged that the said story was obtained from a source close to the governor, even as he claimed that when contacted, Press Secretary to the Niger State governor, Danladi Ndayebo, failed to confirm or deny the story, but said "whatever problem that existed within the new PDP was an internal one and that efforts were being made towards reconciling all members."
