Governor Aliyu Says No Going Back on Okada Ban in Niger State

The Chief Servant of Niger State, Governor Babangida Aliyu despite appeals from traditional rulers, politicians and the media says the ban on the operations of commercial motorcyclists in Minna, the state capital, has come to stay.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Danladi Ndayebo, restated the resolve of the state government to enforce the state’s traffic law with effect from January 2, 2014.

The statement said that adequate arrangements had been made to cushion the effect of the ban.
It, however, said that the state government had procured 1000 units of tricycles popularly known as "KEKEN TALBA", 8 units of 18-seater buses, and 12 units of 100-seater buses to ease the problem of transportation in the state.

According to the statement released the ban was necessary in order to reduce the spate of road crashes involving the commercial motorcyclists in the last few years in the state.

1,000 units of tricycles are also currently being distributed to Okada operat ors through the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Operators Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN)
