Fans React To Nigerian Goalkeeper Austin Ejide's Own Goal
Nigeria goalkeeper Austin Ejide has come under intense scrutiny by global media for his suspicious handling of the ball in an incident during Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Scotland at London's Craven Cottage.
The goal was ruled out for an apparent foul but replays showed the keeper appearing to grab the ball then throw the ball into the net, just 24 hours after match-fixing fears.
The National Crime Agency had warned the Scottish FA that the match at Craven Cottage could be targeted by Asian match fixers to influence the game, although it went ahead regardless.
Some Nigeria fans carried placards before the game denouncing the allegations of match fixing.
The act has sparked an uproar among football fans, some branding the act a disgrace and embarrassment to Nigerian Football.
"This guy is a disgrace to football and should get a life ban and Nigeria a 4 year ban for the actions of this guy, it seems that cash is god shame on you for your blind attitude to this cheating scum that is in football today " Ben Ogeh wrote on a YouTube page that shows the incident.
Another user Barenatbil said "It is very clear that he threw the ball into the net, I saw that replay twice, I just don't know why the referee disallowed it"
"It's a shame for Nigerian football."
