New Sci-Fi Series 'Extant' Featuring Halle Berry Premieres on DSTV
Last night M-Net aired the premiere of the highly anticipated summer series, Sci Fi mystery thriller 'Extant' starring the beautiful Academy Award winner, Halle Berry.
Extant begins with the return of Molly Woods from a solo mission in space which lasted for 13 months.
Berry’s character obviously needs readjustment time to blend back into the daily routine after being in isolation for so long. The tension begins to mount when Sam Barton, played by Camryn Manheim (from The Ghost Whisperer), confronts her friend and colleague after getting back the test results of Wood’s examination upon returning to Earth. Mystery unfolds when the viewers learn that even though Wood’s was alone on a solo mission, the astronaut returned pregnant.
As the show continues, questions arise about what is exactly going on with Berry’s character and her husband, John Woods, played by Goran Visnjic , formerly from ER. Viewers begin to unravel the story of how Wood’s was previously married or in love with someone else, Marcus Dawkins, played by Sergio Harford.
As Wood’s begins to have flashbacks and tries to piece together what really happened out there in space, viewers get a glimpse of when and how Wood’s becomes pregnant.
After a solar flare messes with the spaceships electronics, Woods finds herself in what seems to be a hallucination when she is faced with the presence of Marcus, who has supposed to have died.
Unaffected by the lack of gravity, Dawkins walks up to a floating Berry who struggles’ trying to make sense of what is going on.
Another side plot that is very interesting is the son Molly and John have, Ethan. Ethan turns out to be a prototype robot that has become their son, because the couple were having a very hard time getting pregnant on their own.
However, even in the first episode, seeds are planted in the viewer’s mind that something is not all right with this robot boy and they are left with a sense that Ethan is or will be an antagonist to Wood’s.
The entrance of character Hideki Yasumoto, played by Hiroyuki Sanada from Lost, adds yet another intriguing twist. Yasumoto who himself was "awakened" from some kind of cyber sleep has a rather peculiar interest in Wood’s and appears to already be aware of her situation. In order to keep a close eye on Wood’s condition, Yasumoto funds her husband’s robot project.
For lovers of science fiction or shows like Lost, Under the Dome, Extant starts its season off with a bang. With an incredible cast and with Berry leading the show, audiences this summer can rely on Extant to give some thrills.
Steven Spielberg is executive producer and was created by Mickey Fisher.
The show began with pretty good ratings, pulling in a total of 9.4 million viewers. Time will only tell if the Halle Berry’s new series, Extant will have what it takes not to go extinct.
Catch Extant at 21:30 CAT every Wednesdays on DSTV's M-Net 101.

Looks like Halle Berry's been hitting the skin lightener again it must be in her contract that states that she can't be married to a black guy in her movies or shows..Completely hollowed out
ReplyDeleteI dunno. I'm not a big Halle Berry fan, and it looks like they're trying to juggle an awful lot of balls in the air.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, it looks like there's some moderately interesting freaky fun stuff going on. I guess it will depend on whether or not I remember to record the first ep
