Soldiers Go on Rampage in Lagos as BRT Bus Kills Colleague

Some military men around 9am this morning allegedly went on rampage, stopping traffic and smashing the mirrors and windscreens of the state owned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses in protest against the killing of a fellow military personnel at Palmgroove and Onipanu bus tops along the popular Ikorodu road in Lagos.

According to Nigerian Bulletin, the deceased army soldier was being trailed by the officials of Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) for plying on the BRT lane. He was allegedly dragged off from his motor bike, hence the fight and subsequently killed by a moving BRT bus.

The scuffle was reportedly fierce, leaving the entire vicinity charged, as motorists and pedestrians could not drive or move freely, especially from Jibowu/Yaba end of the axis inward Ojota-Mile 12.

UPDATE: 21:00(WAT)

TheCable reports that at least 5 BRT buses conveying passengers were torched by the angry soldiers. The soldiers ordered the passengers out before setting the buses on fire.

Many abandoned their vehicles to run for cover, leading to a serious traffic that had stretched to Ojota.

Hordes of road users were forced to trek to their destinations, while pedestrians had to raise their hands to avoid the wrath of the military men.

"I initially thought soldiers had taken over until I moved closer to the place where they were setting a BRT ablaze," a commuter told TheCable.
