Bomb Blast Hits School in Kano State
Reuters reports that at least seven people have been killed Monday afternoon at the premises of Kano School of Health Technology located along Gida Murtala–BUK Road.
According to Vanguard, the blast which went off around 2pm appeared to come from a parking lot next to the provost’s office of the School of Hygiene, a post-secondary training school.
Kano police spokesman Magaji Magia confirmed the blast but declined to provide details until he reached the scene.
Meanwhile a suicide bomber on Sunday reportedly rammed his car into a military checkpoint in Borno state near the Cameroon border killing three soldiers in an attack blamed on Boko Haram.
It was reported that three other soldiers were also injured in an early morning attack on Sunday in Gwoza town. 100 kilometres (60 miles) from state capital Maiduguri
A resident, Dahiru Yunusa, told newsmen, "It was a suicide attack by a man believed to be a Boko Haram (member) who drove his car into the checkpoint and killed three soldiers." "The huge blast which was heard throughout the town," he added.
Boko Haram has been laying siege to the region for at least five years as part of a bloody campaign to establish Islamic rule in Nigeria, and rid the country of western education. Thousands have been killed in the conflict and nearly one million refugees have streamed into neighbouring countries.
