Youths Surrender Weapons in Niger State

About 200 youths from Limawa and Anguwan Daji in Minna, Niger State renounced their membership of a notorious group, Yandaba, fingered for perennial clashes in Minna.

The youths also surrendered their weapons to security agents at a ceremony held at the secretariat of the Chanchaga Local Government Council, after series of meetings and negotiations.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Saidu Idris, said that the group’s acceptance to embrace peace would boost the socio-economic development of the two areas.

He said that government would continue to provide the enabling environment for people to live peacefully with one another.

Idris said that the present administration in the state would continue to give priority attention to youth empowerment.

He called on members of the group to expose those sponsoring them, warning that government would deal decisively with anybody caught engaging in criminal activities.

In her remarks, the Commissioner of Police in Niger, Mrs Desiye Nsirim, said that the group had posed serious threats to the peace and security.

She warned youths engaging in nefarious activities to voluntarily hand over their fighting tools with a view to allowing peace to prevail in the state.

The Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government, Alhaji Yakubu Sallau, also warned that any youth found engaging in criminal activities would be dealt with.

He expressed the hope that the reconciliation between the two warring factions would impact positively on residents of the two areas.
